What causes it

North Coastal

Carlsbad, Encinitas, and Oceanside sit on the same mild I-5 corridor as the coast, but the daily commute stretches further, often down into Central San Diego or up toward Camp Pendleton and the Orange County line. Those longer commute miles eat into range margins that felt comfortable on paper, and long highway sits invite 12V drain.

North County Inland

Escondido, San Marcos, and the I-15 corridor spread drivers out over longer distances between chargers than the coast. Inland heat runs several degrees hotter than the beach, which degrades range and stresses aging 12V batteries at the same time. Misjudged trips are more common out here simply because the miles add up faster.

East County

El Cajon, Alpine, and the I-8 corridor climb real elevation, and those grades pull noticeably more range than flat-road estimates suggest. Summer heat out here runs hotter and longer than almost anywhere else in the county. Fast chargers are thinner on the ground, so a misjudged trip means a longer wait for relief.

South County

Chula Vista and the 805 corridor near the border carry heavy commute traffic with thinner charging infrastructure than areas further north. Cross-border errands and unplanned detours add miles drivers didn't budget for. We see a steady mix of ran-out-of-charge calls and dead 12Vs from cars left parked near the port of entry.

Backcountry

Ramona, Julian, and the mountain communities are genuinely remote, often an hour or more from the nearest fast charger. Grades are steep, temperature swings are wider, and range anxiety out here is earned, not imagined. When a car strands in the backcountry, the wait for help is real, so we prioritize these calls.

My Tesla screen is black but the app shows it's charging. What's wrong?

That's a classic 12V symptom. The high-voltage pack can charge normally through its own separate system while the 12V battery that runs the screen and door handles fails. We jump or replace the 12V and the screen comes back.

Can I jump a Tesla myself if it won't turn on?

Tesla's jump points aren't in the obvious spot under a hood, and reaching them can require opening the frunk or a service panel, which won't open without 12V power. It's a lockout loop most drivers can't break alone. We carry the right adapters to get in and jump it safely.

How do I know if it's the 12V and not the car dying for good?

A Tesla with a dead 12V looks completely lifeless, but it's one of the most common and cheapest fixes there is. We test it on site in a few minutes. If the 12V is healthy and the car still won't wake, it needs a service center.
