Your EV is plugged in but the dashboard shows no charging progress. This usually means the car, not the charger, is refusing the session. A few different systems can cause the refusal, and most are fixable without a shop visit.

What causes it
- Charge port cable not fully latched or seated
- Onboard charger fault refusing the session
- Battery too hot or too cold, so the pack limits charging
- A scheduled charge time set in the app is blocking it
- Tripped breaker or faulty outlet feeding the charger
How we fix it on-site
We check whether the fault sits in your car or the charging setup you're using. Our truck delivers its own Level 2 charge to test the pack directly. If your car accepts our charge, the problem was the plug, not the car.
Charging failures can come from either system, so we test both. A weak 12V battery can block the charge port from communicating with the charger at all.

Coastal neighborhoods like La Jolla, Pacific Beach, and Del Mar see less heat-related range loss than the rest of the county, but tourist parking garages and beach lots are full of cars sitting for days with cameras and monitoring left running. North Coastal
Carlsbad, Encinitas, and Oceanside sit on the same mild I-5 corridor as the coast, but the daily commute stretches further, often down into Central San Diego or up toward Camp Pendleton and the Orange County line. Those longer commute miles eat into range margins that felt comfortable on paper, and long highway sits invite 12V drain.
North County Inland
Escondido, San Marcos, and the I-15 corridor spread drivers out over longer distances between chargers than the coast. Inland heat runs several degrees hotter than the beach, which degrades range and stresses aging 12V batteries at the same time. Misjudged trips are more common out here simply because the miles add up faster.

El Cajon, Alpine, and the I-8 corridor climb real elevation, and those grades pull noticeably more range than flat-road estimates suggest. Summer heat out here runs hotter and longer than almost anywhere else in the county. Fast chargers are thinner on the ground, so a misjudged trip means a longer wait for relief.

Chula Vista and the 805 corridor near the border carry heavy commute traffic with thinner charging infrastructure than areas further north. Cross-border errands and unplanned detours add miles drivers didn't budget for. We see a steady mix of ran-out-of-charge calls and dead 12Vs from cars left parked near the port of entry.
Backcountry
Ramona, Julian, and the mountain communities are genuinely remote, often an hour or more from the nearest fast charger. Grades are steep, temperature swings are wider, and range anxiety out here is earned, not imagined. When a car strands in the backcountry, the wait for help is real, so we prioritize these calls.

Is a car that won't charge always a dead battery?
No. Plenty of non-charging calls turn out to be a scheduled charge setting, a loose connector, or a faulty home outlet. We test the pack directly with our own charger before assuming the worst. That saves you a tow you might not need.
Can you fix a broken charge port on the spot?
We can diagnose it and sometimes work around it, but a physically broken port usually needs a service center. We'll tell you honestly which situation you're in before charging you for anything we can't actually fix.
