The 12V (low-voltage) battery is what wakes a Tesla’s computers, latches, and screens. When it dies in a San Diego driveway, Tesla Mobile Service and a roadside jump are not the same visit. Tesla’s own appointment is a scheduled service stop. A jump only wakes the car so you can move it or get a written replacement estimate.

Confirm what Tesla Mobile Service handles

Tesla Mobile Service is Tesla coming to the car. It is Tesla’s technician, Tesla’s parts path, and Tesla’s schedule. Charge Pro SD is not Tesla. We connect stranded drivers with independent local operators. We do not replace Tesla batteries, and we do not send Tesla Mobile Service.

Whether a 12V (low-voltage) battery replacement is a Mobile Service job is Tesla’s call for that VIN. Charge Pro SD could not confirm a public, VIN-agnostic list of which 12V replacements Tesla always does at the car. Tesla may offer a mobile visit, a service-center visit, or roadside help. Only the Tesla app and Tesla’s written estimate confirm what they will do at your address.

That matters in San Diego County because the car’s location is not one kind of place. A Clairemont or Mira Mesa driveway is a different job than a downtown HOA garage, a Coronado street spot, or a Chula Vista apartment lot. Tesla has to accept the site for a mobile visit. If Tesla will not come to that spot, the 12V replacement does not happen there, even if the search query sounds like a house call.

Do not treat Tesla Mobile Service as a roadside rescue. Do not treat it as a jump. And do not treat Charge Pro SD as a Tesla shop. If you need Tesla parts and Tesla labor, you are talking to Tesla. If the car is dead on I-5, I-805, or SR-78 and you need it awake or off the pavement, that is a different problem. A low-voltage warning is not proof the high-voltage pack failed.

Tesla’s published New Vehicle Limited Warranty for Model S, 3, X, and Y sold by Tesla covers the high-voltage battery and drive unit on VIN-specific terms. That PDF is not a confirmed 12V replacement policy. Check Specs and Warranty in the Tesla app for your car. If Tesla’s written estimate does not say the low-voltage battery is covered, do not assume it is.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s electric vehicle pages are a clean high-level reminder that an EV is not one battery. The traction pack moves the car. A separate low-voltage system runs the computers and accessories. Tesla Mobile Service 12V battery replacement, when Tesla offers it, is about that smaller system, not a pack swap.

Separate a roadside jump from a replacement visit

A roadside jump and a Tesla Mobile Service 12V battery replacement answer different moments. A jump tries to restore enough low-voltage power to wake the car. A replacement visit is Tesla installing Tesla’s part, if Tesla accepts that job. Mixing them is how people wait for a service appointment while the car is still blocking a Pacific Beach alley or an Encinitas driveway.

Tesla’s current Model Y owner’s manual describes a lithium-ion low-voltage battery. It identifies positive and negative jump posts after the hood is open. It also warns that Model Y cannot be used to jump-start another vehicle. That is Model Y documentation, not a chemistry claim for every Tesla in the county. If your car is a different model or year, use that year’s Tesla manual. Do not copy a Model Y clamp map onto a Model S, a Cybertruck, or an older 12V layout.

The same Model Y manual is clear about the hood when the car has no power. The wires behind the tow-eye cover only release the hood latches. Tesla says they cannot charge the low-voltage battery. Disconnect them as soon as the hood unlatches. That is a hood-open step, not a replacement, and not a DIY 12V repair.

If the car is in a traffic lane or a dangerous spot on I-15, I-8, or SR-94, California Highway Patrol says to call 911. In metropolitan areas, other roadside requests can go through 511 by saying “Roadside Assistance.” That is safety and traffic help. It is not Tesla Mobile Service, and it is not a battery replacement.

Tesla directs owners to request roadside assistance through the Tesla app. Tesla says out-of-range assistance may be available but is not financially covered. Roadside availability can be restricted case by case for safety or regulatory reasons. A Tesla roadside request can be a jump or a tow conversation. It is still not the same thing as a scheduled Mobile Service replacement.

If the screens are dark, the app will not talk, or the car will not wake, treat it as a low-voltage stall first. A matched local operator on a Tesla 12V battery jump is there to try to wake the car, not to sell Tesla’s part. Charge Pro SD does not jump the battery. The independent operator you are connected with does that work, after they confirm the exact vehicle and what they can legally and safely do on site.

Check Tesla’s current request path

Use Tesla’s current tools in the Tesla app. Charge Pro SD could not confirm a frozen, public menu path that never changes. Do not trust a screenshot from a forum thread. Open the app on the phone tied to that VIN. Look at Tesla’s live Service and Roadside options. Tesla may route a low-voltage issue as Mobile Service, as a service-center visit, or as roadside. Only Tesla’s screen for that car is current.

Say what is actually happening. “Car will not wake in a Mission Valley garage” is useful. “12V is dead” is a guess until Tesla or a qualified tech says so. Note whether the Tesla app still connects, whether the charge port opens, and whether the car is on private property or a public shoulder. Tesla cannot schedule a driveway visit if you have not given them a location they will accept.

If Tesla offers Mobile Service, read the appointment details before you tap through. Confirm the address Tesla has on file. An Oceanside work lot, a Rancho Bernardo driveway, and a National City street park are not interchangeable. If the car cannot stay there until Tesla arrives, a mobile replacement slot does not solve the morning. You may still need the car moved or woken first.

Tesla roadside and Tesla Service are both Tesla. They are still different queues. Roadside is for a disabled vehicle. Service is for the repair Tesla is willing to book. A 12V battery replacement Tesla is willing to do at your house still starts as a service request, not as a promise that someone is already rolling. Charge Pro SD publishes no Tesla wait times, and we do not speak for Tesla’s calendar.

Keep the VIN, mileage, and a photo of the message on the screen, if there is one. If there is no screen, say that. Then wait for Tesla’s written estimate before you approve parts. If Tesla will not come, or the car has to move today, that is when a Tesla roadside rescue conversation with a matched local operator can sit beside Tesla’s own path, not instead of reading Tesla’s terms.

Ask what the written estimate includes

Do not approve a 12V replacement on a verbal maybe. Ask Tesla for a written estimate in the app. Charge Pro SD could not confirm a current Tesla Mobile Service parts price, labor rate, trip fee, or tax for a 12V (low-voltage) battery in San Diego County. Any number you hear in a parking lot is not a published figure we can stand behind. If Tesla does not put it in writing, treat it as unconfirmed.

Ask Tesla, in plain words, what the line items are. Is this the low-voltage battery, or are they looking at the high-voltage pack. Is the visit Mobile Service at this address, or a service-center drop. Does the estimate include the part, labor, and any mobile-visit charge Tesla applies. What happens to the old battery. What is not included. If a line is blank, ask them to fill it before you approve.

Coverage is VIN-specific. Tesla’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty PDF for Model S, 3, X, and Y (NVW effective 2025/06/05, vehicles sold by Tesla) states high-voltage battery and drive unit terms: Model S and Model X, 8 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first, with a stated minimum 70% battery capacity retention. Model 3 and Model Y Standard or Standard Range Plus: 8 years or 100,000 miles. Model 3 and Model Y Long Range or Performance: 8 years or 120,000 miles. That document does not cover Cybertruck. It also does not, in the pages we can cite, freeze a 12V replacement as a covered Mobile Service job. If your estimate says the low-voltage battery is customer-pay, that is the number that matters.

This page is about the visit type: Tesla Mobile Service versus a jump versus a matched local operator. It is not a price list. Charge Pro SD sets no Tesla fees and offers no warranty on Tesla’s part.

If Tesla’s estimate is only valid at a service center in Kearny Mesa or another Tesla site, a mobile 12V search has already been answered: Tesla will not do that replacement at the car. Plan the tow or the wake-up separately. Do not leave a disabled Tesla in a live lane while you wait on a parts quote.

When a matched local operator may still fit

A Tesla Mobile Service 12V battery replacement is the right path when Tesla accepts the job, accepts the site, and you can leave the car there until they do the work. A matched local operator still fits when the car has to move now, Tesla will not come to that spot, or you only need the low-voltage system awake so you can get home, get to a charger, or get to Tesla’s appointment.

That split shows up all over the county. The car dies in a Sorrento Valley office garage that Tesla will not enter after hours. It dies on a coastal street in La Jolla where you cannot leave it overnight. It dies on the I-805 shoulder, which is a CHP and traffic problem first. It dies in an Escondido driveway on a workday, and Tesla’s next mobile slot is later than you can wait with no second car. None of those scenes make Charge Pro SD a Tesla shop. They are reasons a driver still asks for an independent operator.

We connect you with licensed, independent local EV rescue operators. They are not Tesla Mobile Service. They do not install Tesla’s factory 12V (low-voltage) battery under Tesla’s estimate unless that operator separately says they can and will, in their own written terms. Ask them to confirm the make, model, model year, symptoms, location, proposed service, price, and timing before anyone rolls. If all you need is a wake-up, say that. If you need the car dragged off SR-78, say that. Do not ask an independent operator to impersonate Tesla.

A jump is not a repair. If the low-voltage battery is finished, the car can go dark again. Tesla’s written replacement, when they offer it, is the parts path. The operator’s job, when it fits, is to get you out of the immediate stall. Keep those invoices separate. Pay Tesla for Tesla’s work. Pay the operator for the operator’s work. Charge Pro SD is not on either invoice as the shop.

If Tesla already booked Mobile Service and the car is safe on private property, you may not need anyone else. If the car is not safe, or Tesla declined the mobile visit, use the Tesla app for Tesla’s next step and call us if you still need a local rescue operator for the stall in front of you.

When to call us

Call when the Tesla will not wake, Tesla Mobile Service is not the visit you can wait for, and you need a local operator to try a 12V jump or a roadside rescue at the car. Charge Pro SD does not replace Tesla batteries and does not perform the work. Call us at (858) 400-4465 and we’ll connect you with a local EV rescue operator.
